Spiritual Companionship

One-on-one support for secular and non-traditional people exploring the spiritual and existential dimensions of life: meaning, mortality, purpose, belonging, mystery and relationship with something larger than the isolated self.

You do not need to believe in a deity, subscribe to a doctrine, or identify with a spiritual tradition to have a rich and textured inner life. These are not exclusively religious questions. They are human questions, and sometimes it helps to have someone to explore them with.

What is spiritual companionship?

Spiritual companionship offers a place to bring questions and experiences that don’t require diagnosis, treatment, advice, or an immediate solution.

My approach is intuitive, grounded, compassionate, and non-hierarchical. I am not here to tell you what to believe. I am here to listen carefully, ask meaningful and nuanced questions, notice themes and patterns, and help you stay connected to the deeper currents of your own life and experience.

The word companionship matters. A companion does not stand at the destination calling out directions. They walk beside you, helping you pay attention to the path and discern what your life may be asking of you.

The purpose is not to impose meaning, but to create the conditions in which meaning can emerge. It is not to rush uncertainty toward resolution, but to help you become more comfortable with liminality.

What it is not.

Spiritual companionship is not psychotherapy, mental-health coaching, psychological counseling, or a substitute for professional mental-health care. I am not a therapist, and I do not diagnose or treat mental illness, psychological conditions, trauma, or mental-health crises.

This work is not intended for people seeking support with mental illness or acute psychological symptoms. Its terrain is spiritual and existential and these questions arise through the ordinary dimensions and extraordinary passages of a human life.

Who might benefit from this work?

Spiritual companionship may be useful if you are:

* Moving through a transition, threshold, initiation, crossroads, midlife passage, or dark night of the soul

* Experiencing a period of fallowness, uncertainty, rearrangement, or loss of direction

* Beginning or deepening a spiritual journey or trying to make sense of a mystical experience

* Reconsidering what you believe, what you belong to, or who you are becoming

* Watching a political, ideological, religious, or philosophical framework that once felt certain begin to fracture

* Carrying an intention or vision that you want to tend as it takes shape and reveals itself in its own timing

* Exploring dreams, symbols, recurring patterns, or what your life may be asking of you

* Longing for a deeper relationship with nature, animacy, mystery, or the more-than-human world

* Carrying questions that need accompaniment rather than immediate resolution

You do not need to arrive with a clearly defined spiritual or existential concern. You may simply sense that your usual ways of thinking are not matching the depth of what you are experiencing.

What happens in a session?

Sessions are spacious, responsive conversations shaped by what you show up with. Whatever arises, you retain complete sovereignty over your own life, beliefs, choices, and meaning-making.

Training and approach

My ministerial training prepared me to support people through spiritual growth and life transitions through deep listening, reflection, ceremony, and ethical discernment. I have also experienced the value of this work firsthand through my own relationships with spiritual directors, elders and mentors.

My personal approach is grounded enough to remain rooted in the realities and responsibilities of ordinary life, intuitive enough to listen between the words, and humble enough to honor the mystery of existence and the diversity of human experience and expression.

This work is vulnerable, brave, illuminating, and collaborative. I approach it with care, respect, attunement, and a healthy dose of realness and levity.
