Fijian-Hindu, Mexican-Catholic, Fusion Wedding Ceremony
Reena and Enrique initially contacted me to perform a short and sweet, nonreligious elopement ceremony for them on the Pescadero beach where they’d gotten engaged. But their wedding plan quickly morphed as more family members were invited, and as the winter rains fell, and fell, and fell. Eventually they settled on a beautiful house in Half Moon Bay overlooking the Pacific ocean. The more we talked, the clearer it became that they both wanted to honor their families and cultures in some way, and because I speak some Spanish, and know a fair amount about the Hindu deities (having spent much time in Hindu-India) I felt comfortable incorporating those elements into their wedding ceremony.
So what initially started out as a sweet and simple, no frills, no fuss, beach elopement, turned into a more elaborate Fijian-Hindu, Mexican-Catholic, multi-faith wedding ceremony! Guests were welcomed, incense was lit, Spanish was spoken, mantras were chanted, a love story was told, vows were made, pronouncements were too, and then they were married!
